Ronnie James

Ronnie James

May 17, 2010 | Music

My heart is heavy this morning as I read the news about the death of Ronnie James Dio.

He had one of the greatest, most recognizable voices in rock. The thought that Dio is dead… this can’t be. I never thought I’d read that headline.

Cara and I loved his music.

The most interesting thing about RJD wasn’t his voice or his poetic lyrics but his heart. Ask anyone that met the man, you will hear the same thing… "Dio was a wonderful person".

I remember talking to a woman who met Dio several times and she described him as someone you’d want as your grandfather. She described him as kind and caring.

Ronnie was a legend for sure. He was loved by many.

One of my favorite RJD appearances was "Mask of the great deceiver" on Kerry Livgren’s "Seeds of Change" album. Ronnie’s voice was nothing short of amazing. So much power and passion.

Another favorite is Ronnie and Yngwie’s version of "Dream On"

It didn’t matter what he was doing… he made the song his. Even his work on the "Stars" video… "who cries for the children? I do."

Dio had HUGE heart.

Rest in peace Ronnie. You are remembered fondly.

When there’s lightning – it always bring me down
Cause it’s free and I see that it’s me
Who’s lost and never found
I cry for magic – I feel it dancing in the light
But it was cold – I lost my hold
To the shadows of the night

There’s no sign of the morning coming
You’ve been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark

Do your demons – do they ever let you go
When you’ve tried – do they hide -deep inside
Is it someone that you know
You’re a picture – just an image caught in time
We’re a lie – you and I
We’re words without a rhyme

There’s no sign of the morning coming
You’ve been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark

When there’s lightning – it always brings me down
Cause it’s free and I see that it’s me
Who’s lost and never found
Feel the magic -feel it dancing in the air
But it’s fear – and you’ll hear
It calling you beware

There’s no sign of the morning coming
There’s no sight of the day
You’ve been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark
