Tuesday August 31st, 2004

I just got in from the gym and I had another great workout. I am training at a new facility (left World Gym… long story ;-) My weight is 252lbs and I am still pretty lean.

I trained heavy chest and light shoulders tonight. I am really happy about my recent progress as most of my injuries have healed up (knock on wood quick :-)

Tonight’s DB incline press looked like:

Unassisted DB Incline Chest Press
105lbs x 10
125lbs x 10
135lbs x 10
140lbs x 6

Since moving to this facility, I have been able to switch up my workouts and the muscle is freaking out with the new changes :-) They have an excellent cable chest press that really isolates the muscle… the pump is crazy.

My meals are about the same… I have added turkey sausage to my menu for a little change. It is pretty lean and every piece has 20gr protein. I am eating 2 pieces, 1/2 cup rice (measured dry), 1/4 cup black beans, 1/8 cup peanuts, 1 TBSP fat free sour cream and choice of veggie – 4-5 times daily. The rest of my meals are usually supplemented.

Here are a couple shots after my workout (sorry about the dark pics)

The Musclejournal Story

During my 1st year of training, I found a book in our gym called “The Personal Trainer” by Roger Applewhite. I learned a lot from Roger and quickly adopted it into my daily routine. In August 1999, I had to privilege of meeting Roger. This was essentially the start of Musclejournal.com

The Concept

Musclejournal was a daily fitness blog created by a top fitness professional. Members could read what he ate, how he trained and see daily pictures of his physique. This was “blogging” before blogging existed.

mj group Once we decided on the concept, I started writing code in early September 1999 and had a journal prototype ready for Roger’s 1st journal entry about November 15th.

We went through a ton of ideas and designs before it’s debut on January 1st 2000.

Getting the word out

Now that Musclejournal was on it’s way, we needed to tell folks about it. We were privileged to get a booth at the 2000 Arnold Classic, sharing a space with ISS Research. For 3 months, I literately worked day and night to get Musclejournal ready for this show.

We had a great team that worked the MJ booth – including Bill Davey, Roger and Clark Bartram. We had a great turn out as well.

Back to work

Once I returned from the Arnold, I walked in to my office to find network traffic on Musclejournal! Talk about cool. There were people using MJ!

I spent the next 6-8 months writing a ton of new features, revising code and brainstorming for the ‘right’ design for the site. We were working with Margil Villarreal on a corporate logo and came up with a more uniformed look based on our new colors and logo. mj1

Musclejournal Today

Today, Roger has about 4 years of consecutive journal entries and daily pictures. I have over 2500 hours in development and about 2 years of entries myself. We now offer the archived information on Musclejournal as a free gift.

It is really neat to watch something like Musclejournal evolve and then see people enjoy what you have worked so hard so create.

updated – In October 2008, Musclejournal.com was shut down due to SQL injection that ruined the data and pointed visitors to an infected site. Rather than restore from backup and repair the hole, I felt it was time to put the site to rest. RIP MJ!!

I finished the Get The Edge Cds and really learned a ton of stuff. Tony Robbins is a great success coach and I am beginning the CD set again because there is stuff I missed.

This guy offers a ton of information and it takes me time to absorb it. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for something more out of life.

The three greatest gifts I have received from this program:

  1. Anything can be accomplished once you have a greater purpose for doing it.
  2. Very few negative human traits can be practiced when you are truly grateful and focused on gratitude.
  3. Although I cannot control life or what people do or say, I solely control what things mean to me. I solely control how it affects me. I solely control what I do or think or say.

God knows, that was the best money I have spent in a really long time.

So… how is my training going?

My right shoulder is really injured. It has been 3 months and the pain is getting worse. I have been putting off seeing a doctor (not a good idea) but I know what he is gonna say…. and I am trying every other avenue first. I really think it is a cooked rotator and that may mean surgery.

I cannot do any pressing movements (even light weight hurts) I have been hitting arms and legs alot. :-)

On another note, I really love my elliptical trainer. It is really convenient to take a break from work and jump on it for 20 minutes throughout the day. I think better too.

Well…. Gotta get back to work!

So… my mom called me this morning wondering why my journal hasn’t been updated in a while. I guess somebody reads this thing after all… :-)

I just bought a new elliptical trainer for my home. I am completely pumped about this! As you know I have been completely immersed in “Get The Edge” and one of the building blocks of this awesome program is the Hour of Power. For anyone that hasn’t listened to Tony Robbins, this is an amount of time you devote to juicing up for the day. It is done first thing in the AM, preferably doing some form of cardio.

I have seen a some major changes in my life since I started applying this stuff… and my best days are the ones that start with my hour of power.

With any success, there are obstacles and mine start the minute I set foot out of bed. I hate mornings… I am completely a night person.. so talking myself out of walking 2 flights of stairs, through a cold garage into the cold basement and jumping on a treadmill first thing is pretty easy :-)

I have been wanting to buy an elliptical trainer for some time and I knew that this was a great way to overcome the obstacle. I would roll out of bed, into my shoes and climb on the elliptical. I love it.

Honestly, I have always thought Tony Robbins was a nut job. Boy, was I wrong. I have been wanting to take my life, business and relationships to another level for a very long time. I have been burnt so many times that I just about gave up. I am so grateful I gave this a chance.

I would recommend it to anyone that is looking to make some lasting changes. It is awesome.

Hi everyone!!

Day 3 of “Get The Edge” and I am so totally pumped about this program! Tony Robbins is an awesome ‘success’ coach. I feel like a sponge… this is possibly the the best investment I have every made.

What I have realized (so far…) is the power of gratitude, the power of truly being grateful. Just by making a couple changes in how I start my day, I believe that I have experienced the beginning of something life changing. I cannot wait until tomorrow!!

Today was a rest day. Aside from my AM cardio, I took the day off from the iron.

Night !!!

Jason
