My Sunday Subject
It was Sunday afternoon and I happened to see this beautiful Praying Mantis while I was mowing. Cara and I took a few pictures of our willing subject. It was pretty interesting to watch.
I was kinda bummed that I didn’t have my new Sigma lens handy, I did get a few pics using my Nikon DX 18-105mm kit lens.

Good Morning Fox 8
This morning, I had the rare privilege of shooting with Stan Miller in the Cleveland Fox 8 studios.
Stan was invited to play several segments during the 7:30am to 9am block of the morning news show and I captured some fun moments during our shoot.
It was a wonderful opportunity to see how these professionals work. The sets were vividly lit with wonderful color everywhere. So much to shoot… so little time :-)
The on air talent made it look easy… relaxed and fluent, you almost forgot this was LIVE TV. Oh my god… what was my line? LOL
What was really amazing were the studio engineers. Talk about smooth. Watching them operate BIG robotic cameras with joysticks was awesome. Panning perfectly between shots… THEY made it look easy.
Stan looked great. Smooth, cool and classy (as usual). I am sure the thousands of people watching enjoyed each of his short segments.
I know I did.
Here are a few of my favorite moments from today’s shoot.
The Tamron lens
I rented a Tamron 70-200mm lens for a few days from BorrowLenses.com. They have such a great concept… rent expensive lenses Netflix style.
It put the kit lens to shame in many ways. I loved it.
I will say, most of the reviews I read prior to using this lens make more sense now. Heavy but not unmanageable, the auto focus was a little slow at times… HOWEVER, this lens takes great pictures for the money.
I will be adding it to my bag very soon.

Pictures & Words
So… my quest continues to become a decent photographer. I have taken thousands of pictures with my Nikon D90 and I am slowly improving.
Slowly but surely.
The D90 Digital Field Guide by J. Dennis Thomas has really helped but there is nothing like going out and doing it. Trial and error has been my best teacher to date.
I have been doing a good bit of reading on lenses and WOW can that get confusing.
The kit lens takes great pictures right out of the box. But… I am ready to take things up a notch. Sooooo……
New lens coming
I have a Tamron 70-200mm lens coming via BorrowLenses.com – it is my first experience with this company but I love the concept!
I can’t wait to see how this lens shoots.

Dinner at Blue Olive
I heard the food was excellent at Blue Olive so I did a little extra cardio this afternoon. I put "The Shield" dvd in (my treadmill has built in video) and went at it for a while.
Vic Mackey got the bad guy again and I broke a pretty good sweat.
Later that evening…
Steve, Dave and myself hit Blue Olive for a quick dinner. Talk about phenomenal food. The steak was so tender, I cut it with my fork. (ok… that was just to see if I could. I did use a steak knife too :-)
The house band provided traditional jazz melodies and the atmosphere was perfect for dinner and drinks.
This was my second visit to Blue Olive and I will be going back for sure.
